StockX Redesign

A redesign to improve StockX's home page by presenting its variety of items in a professional, organized, attractive way that will encourage users to buy, bid, sell, and browse without getting overwhelmed.

Overview

Why improve this website?

Its interface suffers from information overload, leading to a cluttered display that may undermine trust. Despite its breadth of products, StockX lacks a distinctive identity, making it less memorable in the crowded online marketplace landscape.

The Question

How might we improve StockX's interface to showcase its diverse inventory in a professional, organized, and visually appealing manner, encouraging users to buy, bid, sell, and browse without risk of overwhelming them with information?

Moodboard Exploration

Chosen Moodboard

I explored a bunch of moodboards that could make the brand's identity more unique, and ended up choosing a laid back but classy feeling to inspire the website design.

The combination of the two ideas is a representation of the site's reselling of luxury items.

Colors & Typography

To capture a classy yet relaxed feel, I chose a serif font for titles that had a touch of playfulness. For regular text and links, I stuck to clean sans-serif fonts to keep the site looking neat and uncluttered. I added a dark olive to the core colors for a subtle pop of color, ensuring the focus remains on the store's items. The rest of the colors, like soft black and white-grey were used for versatility and to maintain a calm vibe throughout the site, making sure all colors used in combination were AAA compliant.

Composition Exploration

Wireframes

I tested different wireframe layouts to find the best design for the site, aiming to keep users interested and encourage scrolling while maintaining organization and cleanliness. This involved exploring various ways to present data, incorporating both vertical and horizontal scrolling options, prioritizing larger images for visual appeal, and carefully balancing text hierarchies to ensure clarity and readability.

Key Learnings & Takeaways

User Engagement is Key 🔑

Throughout the website redesign project, I learned that prioritizing user engagement is crucial. By testing different layouts and scrolling options, I discovered that keeping users interested and encouraging them to explore further greatly enhances their overall experience. Incorporating features such as larger images and dynamic scrolling elements can significantly contribute to increased user engagement and satisfaction.

Simplicity Enhances Usability ✨

By maintaining a clean and organized layout, users can easily navigate the site and find the information they need without feeling overwhelmed. Simplifying text hierarchies and focusing on a muted color palette helped to create a visually appealing yet user-friendly interface. This emphasis on simplicity ultimately enhances usability and ensures a positive user experience.
